Taking the sting out of feedback is difficult, but it is crucial for self-development.
Often criticism is difficult to swallow because it initially can appear as a threat to our brains. We become protective and we’re inclined to go out of our way to make sure we’re in the right.
Unfortunately, we can’t always be right, so we must learn to embrace the feedback, keep the next steps in mind and grow from it.

Stop and think about your reaction

It’s all about attitude, how you react is how you will take the feedback, so start off positively. It’s about priming your mind, stopping for a second and trying not to react negatively or defensively.

Cultivate a growth mindset

Having a growth mindset is all about thriving off criticism, whether it be developing a thicker skin or learning to put down your walls, it is essential to use the criticism to your advantage rather than letting it knock you down. Those with a growth mindset view criticism in a different light, seeing it as an opportunity rather than a threat.

Take time to process criticism

It may be tempting to become defensive and to try to explain yourself. Instead, listen to understand, take a step back to reflect on what you’ve heard, and constructively use this criticism.
Listening to constructive criticism is the only way we are going to learn about where we can improve. So start cultivating a growth mindset today and watch yourself grow.
